Roll-to-Roll (R2R) Operator / Technician

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Roll-to-Roll (R2R) Operator / Technician to support process development for advanced thin-film coating applications. This is a hands-on technical role in an R&D environment, not a repetitive production position.
You will work closely with engineering and technical teams to execute coating trials, optimize machine parameters, and support the transition of processes toward scalable manufacturing.
This role is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude who thrives in a fast-paced, development-focused setting where processes are continuously evolving.
Key Responsibilities
Set up and operate roll-to-roll coating equipment for experimental trials
Prepare solvent-based inks and coating formulations per defined procedures
Execute coating trials based on engineering and R&D specifications
Monitor and adjust web tension, alignment, and process parameters
Run coating processes such as gravure and slot die
Manage drying conditions and evaluate coating quality during runs
Identify and recommend process improvements
Perform equipment cleaning, changeovers, and basic maintenance support
Assist with preventative maintenance and troubleshooting
Develop and update SOPs for operation and cleaning procedures
Maintain accurate experimental records and process documentation
Required Qualifications
Associate’s degree in engineering technology, materials science, manufacturing, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
3+ years of experience operating roll-to-roll coaters, printers, or web-based equipment
Experience with multiple of the following:
Thin film coating processes
Gravure coating on flexible films
Slot die coating
Solvent-based ink preparation
Ink drying systems
Web handling, tension control, and alignment
Web cleaning methods
Cleanroom environments
Strong mechanical troubleshooting ability
Ability to follow detailed experimental protocols
Experience documenting processes and writing SOPs
Comfortable working with solvents and industrial equipment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in process development or pilot-line environments
Familiarity with contamination control in coating applications
Basic understanding of coating rheology and fluid behavior
Experience supporting equipment upgrades or modifications
Forklift certification or industrial safety training (if applicable)
